Teen saved from River Shannon after heavy flooding

The incident happened on a section of the river below the Parteen Weir hydro dam.

A TEEN HAS been rescued from the River Shannon in Co Limerick.

The incident happened shortly before 1am last night, with members of Limerick City Fire and Rescue Service attending the scene.

Upon arrival, it was found that a friend of the 18-year-old had pulled him from the water, at which point the Coastguard – who had also been alerted about the incident – were told to stand down.

The youth was only half-clothed at this point, although his friend was trying to warm him up.

The firefighters helped with this, but were unable to stop him from having seizures.

He was then given first aid and oxygen and taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick.

His condition is thought to be stable.

It is understood that the section of the river he fell into near Castleconnell is below the Parteen Weir hydro dam where the water level was higher than what it would be normally.
