Love it or hate it many different parts of the country saw some heavy snowfall today.

18 years ago on the 8th of February (1996) I crossed over from larne to Stranraer. I passed through Dumfries and Galloway the snow was 5 feet deep covering all cars, the roads were mostly passible as they were regularly plowed. Though we were warned leaving the ferry that roads were impassible and we should stay the night locally. We went anyway. Some snow drifts were 7 feet deep and the snow was half way up the 2 storey houses.

    It was an amazing sight.

@Lily, worked in Scotland for 6 months and enjoyed the snow driving experience :-) but the most snow I ever saw was up the top end of Japan in Muroran and Nemuro were they cut canyons through the 20 feet of snow and life just went on almost as normal. We had a bit of fun when we got stuck for a few hours in ice in the Sea of Okhotsk but the real danger was touching ships rails with bare hands, instant freezer burn that would literally skin you. Magic place.

As they found with carbon taxes in Oz. National greenhouse accounts to be released today show carbon emissions fell just 0.3 per cent in the year to September 2013. This was despite the carbon tax raising $7 billion over the period. “$1,350 from your house for the year to Sept 2013, produced an emissions fall from 543.9 million tons all the way down to 542.1 .” Pure unadulterated lunacy.
