Ireland's first ever horror convention will see zombies on the capital's streets today

IF YOU’RE NEAR The Red Cow hotel in Dublin today, don’t be surprised to see a few zombies.

Ireland’s first horror convention is taking place and those heading along are being encouraged to dress up.

ScreamVention is on for two days and there’s also a cosplay (costume play) competition to crown the best dressed at the event.

Nine actors famed for their roles in famous horror films are there to meet fans. Included among them is the man who played the the original Candyman.

There’s also a film competition in which independent filmmakers have made some short horror movies.

Lisa O’Brien, organiser of ScreamVention, says the idea is for the horror community in Ireland can meet the actors, many of whom have never made a convention visit to Ireland before.

O’Brien has put on similar comic conventions in Dublin and says their success is made this spin-off event possible.

ScreamVention runs today and tomorrow at the RedCow Moran Hotel from 10am-6pm and you can pay entrance at the door.
