Sean Fitzpatrick under armed guard

Gardaí are shadowing former bank chiefs Sean Fitzpatrick and Michael Fingleton over fears they may be attacked.

FORMER ANGLO IRISH chief Sean Fitzpatrick is under garda protection after receiving death threats, according to the Irish Daily Mirror.

Both Fitzpatrick and Micheal Fingleton, the former chief executive of Irish Nationwide Building Society, are reportedly being watched by gardaí as public anger grows ahead of the the state’s harshest budget ever.

Gardaí do not believe that the men are marked to be targeted by an organised group, but fear that they could become the victims of spontaneous violence.

The Mirror reports that neither men venture out of their homes regularly for fear of assault.

A garda source told the paper:

People might be angry but in the eyes of the law he did no wrong and he deserves the same protection as you or I.

It was revealed last week that the cost of bailing out Anglo and Irish Nationwide could the Irish taxpayer as much as €50bn.
