4 of a kind: Homes across the country that are a stone's throw from the sea

From a stone three-bed in the wilds of west Cork to a luxury home in Malahide.

BEAUTIFUL VIEWS, PEACEFUL walks in the sea air, the ability to go for a dip and be back at home within minutes… there’s no shortage to the benefits of living by the seaside.

This week we’re looking at four homes in seaside locations around the country – from a beautiful stone three-bed in the wilds of west Cork to a large and luxurious home in Malahide.

Tramore, Co Waterford – €595,000

34 Carrigeenlea is a spacious four-bed home with a floor area of 199 m². This house is ready to walk into having been redecorated recently. The rooms inside comprise a hall that links to the lounge and then the kitchen with dining area. A sunroom sits to the back of the house, as does the sunny south-facing garden. On the first floor lives the four bedrooms – the main has its own bathroom and the others share the family bathroom. You have great sea views from the first floor, too.

Number 34 sits on Cliff Road in Tramore, so the beach is a walk away as is the Doneraile Walk, Newtown Cove and the Guillamene swimming area. Plenty of amenities for every day living are a quick drive away including school and shops.

Skibbereen, Co Cork – €750,000

Sitting on one acre, this three-bed home overlooks Tragumna Bay near the west Cork town of Skibbereen. The house was built in the ’90s and has a C1 BER, which is definitely a plus along the Wild Atlantic Way. With a floor area of 238 m² divided over three different levels, the rooms are large and bright and give ample choice when it comes to where you can relax and entertain guests. The kitchen and dining area has a vaulted ceiling and stretches down to a lounge that grabs light from the side and out to the sea.

For keen gardeners, as well as those who have an affinity with the sea, this home might be a piece of paradise. The grounds surrounding the home are in great nick and well-thought-out. Sheltered areas can withstand any harsh weather and there’s even an outdoor jacuzzi that can seat up to eight people.

Malahide, Co Dublin – €1,525,000

A large four-bed that dates to the early ‘70s but has been kept in mint condition, 236 Seapark doesn’t just offer great sea views, it also has its own putting green and a high-end barbeque area that even has its own kitchen that’s ideal for summer entertaining. Spread over 231 m², the orientation is well-thought-out and faces south, so the rooms are filled with natural light and the windows frame the great sea views.

Split-level in design, the rooms are spread over three floors. The foyer, entered from the front door, links to the living room, bespoke Siematic hand painted kitchen and then a dining room. Three of the bedrooms, one with access to the garden, also reside on this floor. Two of the bedrooms have en suite bathrooms and fitted wardrobes. The floor below is home to another double bedroom with its own bathroom and even private access, making it ideal for guests.

Ballymoney, Co Wexford – €775,000

No doubt, the pure size of this modern home on Sea Road is what you’ll notice first – especially as it has just four bedrooms. With a floor area of  264 m², this means the other spaces are spacious and bright, many with double aspects. There’s a luxurious balcony to the back of the house that spans the width of it and looks over the well maintained gardens and patio ideal for entertaining in. With a detached garage to the side, there’s no shortage of space for anyone who works from home, too.

Ballymoney is sure to promote an active lifestyle with cycle routes close by along with golf course, mountain trails and plenty of watersports to take part in. The house is about 500 metres from the coast and no doubt whoever buys this home will have friends queuing up to stay for a holiday in the sunny southeast.
