He has since been released on police bail.

A SECOND MAN has been arrested in connection with an attack on a mosque in county Down.

PSNI detectives are investigating the attack on the mosque in Greenwell Street in Newtownards, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 10 August.

Police said the man, aged 46, was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, including attempted arson with intent to endanger life, making a petrol bomb and criminal damage.

He has since been released on police bail.

A 42-year-old man arrested on Sunday in relation to the attack was also released on bail to allow for further enquiries.

“Enquiries are continuing and anyone with any information or footage that could assist the investigation is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 53 of 10/08/24,” the PSNI said.

Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.

On Saturday, up to 15,000 people took part in a peaceful anti-racism rally in Belfast after a week of anti-immigrant protests and disorder in the city.
