Section of M9 closed after man in late 50s killed in road crash

The incident involving a car and tractor/trailer occurred at 3.30 this afternoon.

GARDAÍ IN KILKENNY are investigating a fatal road crash which occurred on the M9 earlier today.

The incident, involving a car and a tractor towing a trailer, happened at about 3.30pm. Gardaí at Thomastown confirmed to TheJournal.ie that a man was killed during the crash.

Gardaí have this evening confirmed that a man in his late 50s died at the scene. He was removed to Waterford Regional Hospital where a post mortem examination will be carried out.

The southbound carriageway of the motorway between junctions nine and 10 is currently closed to traffic. The stretch of road between Danesfort and Knocktopher is not expected to reopen for a number of hours.

Diversions are in place.
