Question time
What do you deem the most important issue for the European Union now and what would you like to see happen in that area?
Immigration, climate change, housing and disability rights.
I would like to see the EU migration pact implemented in a way that fully respects the rights of migrants. I also believe that the border detention provisions in the pact could be problematic in Northern Ireland and the implications of the pact will not be known until EU member states start to implement it.
I would like to see further action on social rights at an EU level, in particular I would like to see increased work being done on disability rights to ensure that Ireland and other EU countries are fully compliant with the UNCRPD. I would push for the introduction of legislation which ensures a fully inclusive European Union where disability rights are fully respected.
I would also work to ensure that Ireland is utilizing all of the available EU funding streams for the advancement of public health, disability rights, equality and housing rights.
Climate change will create massive challenges over the coming years and I want to ensure that Ireland meets its climate targets and that our farmers and those in the fishing industry are represented and supported within the EU. Frequent communication and engagement is of upmost importance in ensuring that all stakeholders are given a voice at the decision making table, particularly when the obligations imposed on them to address climate change can affect their livelihoods. It is vital that Ireland meets its climate targets while leaving no one behind.
What group will you be aligned with in the European Parliament, should you win a seat? What do you see as their priorities?
As a new party, we have not been elected to Europe yet and if elected we will get a great opportunity to meet with any interested parties and discuss potential affiliation. I can promise you that we will take any affiliation seriously as long as the group aligns with our views and policies.
Why should someone vote for you?
As a human rights lawyer, who has their own practice, I am well placed to understand the struggles of Irish people and businesses. It has been a pride of mine to support people of all walks of life to attain justice for their basic needs, their right to safety, to a secure housing to a home in this country.
I have seen first hand myself as a mother of two children the consequences of EU policy not only on my clients, and my employees but on my own family. People are tired of voting for the same policies that simply do not deliver on the change we need in housing, in healthcare in education.
I have worked for years as a practitioner in law, as a disability rights advocate for Inclusion Ireland and a policy critic. While I am a new candidate in Irish politics, I like to think of that as an advantage. People want something different, and I would bring a new perspective and a career of experience to the fight for the change Irish people want.
