Security alert continues in Belfast as bomb squad deals with ‘suspicious object’

A bomb disposal unit has been sent to the scene close to the Queen’s Bridge in the centre of the Northern Irish capital.

POLICE IN BELFAST are continuing to urge motorists to avoid the city centre area as they respond to a callout on a suspicious object in the area.

An armed forces bomb disposal unit was despatched to the Queen’s Bridge area to deal with the object shortly before 1pm this afternoon.

PSNI officers have advised motorists to seek alternative main routes for any journeys.

The callout means traffic has also been affected for motorists trying to access the Odyssey and Titanic Quarter. Motorists are advised to use the Dee Street entrance if trying to access that area.

There are no further details available at present.
