Yikes! Serbian minister almost killed by falling ice

Aleksandar Antic recovered quickly — and said he had enormous respect for staff working to restore power in the area.

SERBIA’S MINISTER FOR Energy Aleksandar Antic had a lucky escape today, after he was struck on the head by a falling lump of ice.

His safety helmet was knocked off as the ice fell from a tree — and a shaken-looking Antic showed the camera afterwards how his headwear had cracked in the impact.

The Minister was in the town of Majdanpek to visiting workers trying to repair transmission lines damaged by the severe weather, according to Serbian news site b92.net.

Afterwards, he told reporters the incident demonstrated the harsh conditions the teams were working under.

“Icicles are falling from poles, from trees – I have an enormous amount of respect for these people.”
