Gardaí investigate serious assault in Cork city centre

A 36-year-old man received serious facial injuries during the assault in the early hours of this morning in Cork city centre.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING after a 36-year-old man was seriously assaulted in Cork city in the early hours of this morning.

The man sustained major facial injuries during the attack, which happened between 12.30am and 1.45am today at the junction of Lavitt’s Quay and St Patrick’s Bridge.

A group of men and women are believed to have left the scene immediately afterwards and travelled in the direction of Bridge Street.

The man is being treated at Cork University Hospital for his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who was in the area at the time to contact Anglesea Street Garda Station on 021 – 452 2000.
