Homes of Irish golfer and FF TD in Offaly ransacking

Burglars targeted the homes of former Irish open champion Shane Lowry and Fiana Fail TD Barry Cowen.

THE FAMILY HOME of Offaly golfer and former Irish open champion Shane Lowry was robbed last night, as burglars targeted two homes in Clara, Co Offaly. Laois/Offaly TD Barry Cowen was also targeted.

According to Gardai, the houses were broken into between 8pm and 10pm last night. Several trophies won by Lowry in his early playing days were stolen, as was a replica Sam Maguire cup, presented to his father Brendan Lowry. A corner forward with the Offaly Gaelic football team of the 1980s, he won an all-Ireland for his county in 1982.

Shane Lowry made his feelings on the matter pretty clear in a tweet:

Cowens house was raided while he was attending to constituency work. It is not yet clear whether anything was stolen. No other houses are believed to have been targeted in Clara last night.

Crime stats shouldn’t be ‘stick to beat gardaí with’, says TD>
