A SINKHOLE IN a northeastern Chinese city swallowed five people in a dramatic scene that was captured on security video and shared widely on Chinese social media.
A provincial broadcaster said four people were injured in the Saturday incident in the provincial capital of Harbin.
The surveillance camera video shows pedestrians walking or standing on the sidewalk when it suddenly gave in.
Three people fell straight into the hole, while a woman clung to pipes just underneath the sidewalk. Another person standing on the edge fell sideways into the hole.
Heilongjiang Network Broadcasting Television said the people were probably waiting for a bus because it occurred at a bus stop. The bus sign also was swallowed by the sinkhole, the broadcaster said.
Passers-by pulled the victims from the hole, which was about three metres deep, the broadcaster said.
It said four received minor injuries to their feet, legs, arms and shoulders.
It was not immediately clear what caused the sidewalk to collapse.

That’s mad Ted. In fairness the locals that looked into the sinkhole (or whatever it’s called) were pretty casual……there goes Jimmy down the rabbit hole again….a bit weird.

Weird how the camera was pointing directly on the spot where the hole was …. Or was not… Maybe the footage is zoomed?
But at first i thought it was a bit odd!
Must have been a frightening experience for the people that the sink hole literally gobbled up…..One minute your standing on firm ground, and in a split second your gone….They were lucky it was only 3 metres…..Thankfully they only received minor injuries…

Why are the commentators not taking this seriously? People may have been seriously injured or fatally! Is it because they are of another race we think it’s okay to have a laugh?

Last time I saw something like that, I was playing Metal Gear Solid….
I find it quite amazing the “static camera” is focused perfectly on the spot to give a great view! Also I did not know static cameras moved, that mount must be pretty badly fixed.
Its actually a hand held camera recording a video that has been made from the output of the static camera which is being displayed on a monitor. You can see the top of the monitor near the end of the video, the video being recorded is stationary within the monitor.
