Skinny jeans now come with a worrying health warning

A woman was hospitalised with nerve damage and leg weakness.

IT’S NEWS THAT will put fear in the hearts of all hipsters.

Doctors have issued a serious warning after a woman in Adelaide, Australia, reportedly passed out while helping a friend move while wearing skinny jeans.

The 35-year-old had to be taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital to have her jeans cut off by doctors, because her legs had swollen so much.

Neurology expert Thomas Kimber wrote about the case in the latest issue of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry.

He said:

As she was squatting for a long period of time her trousers restricted the blood supply to both calves, and in response the muscles start to undergo stress and swell.
We were certainly surprised and shocked. It was a surprise to us that someone could get such severe nerve and muscle damage from the activity she described. The clothing she was wearing was the critical factor.

The woman was in hospital for four days, suffering nerve damage and leg weakness. There have been a number of similar cases in the past involving patients with numb or aching thighs.

So, what to do if you just can’t be kept out of those skin-tight jeans? First of all, Kimber recommends avoiding them if you intend to do a job that involves pressure on the knees, such as squatting or kneeling.

If your legs begin to feel uncomfortable or tingle, you should stand up and get the blood circulating again.

So now. Jean with caution.
