Irish canoeist killed in Slovenia river accident

Diplomatic officials made contact with the young man’s family yesterday.

AN IRISH MAN has died following an accident on a river in Slovenia.

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed this evening that it was aware of the death, and that it was providing consular assistance to the man’s family.

The young man is understood to be a student at a Dublin third-level institution.

Diplomatic officials made contact with his family yesterday, in the wake of the accident.

His name has not yet been released.

    Thoughts are with family and friends at this time.

    Incidents like this always raise questions which should be answered so we can learn from them (in due time). They can also do lasting damage to colleges and clubs even if all necessary precautions are taken. I hope that it’s the case that whatever the answer to the questions, that a sensible and practical response comes that doesn’t unnecessarily hinder the college course.
