Is it going to snow on Monday?

Wait. What month is it?

YES. YOU HEARD us.

The iOS weather app has sparked fear across the country with this grim forecast – snow in Ireland on Monday.

We knew it was going to get colder, but this?

This is something that had been mooted earlier this week, with one website predicting a (low) risk of snow right across Ireland.
NetWeather.tv is a bit more confident now, with the reading for the early hours of Monday morning showing a strong likelihood of snow.

However, Met Éireann are looking at this with a sceptical eye, calling these predictions “pure guesswork”, as Monday is still a long time away in terms of predicting weather.

David Rogers told TheJournal.ie that that one forecast model is used for programmes like iOS weather app, and “will pick the worst possible scenario”.

“It goes for the highest level of weather that could be produced,” he explained.

There’s no quality control.

But, that aside, is it right? Rogers isn’t convinced.

“It will definitely be noticeably colder, and there will be showers, some wintry,” he said.

He said there is a slim chance there will be very localised hail, but stopped short of saying that other four letter word.

The forecaster should be issuing a more confident forecast as the data becomes clearer, but for now, we’re renting a snow plough and sharing our memories of Summer 2015.
