So try me, Berlusconi tells prosecutors in Italy

Berlusconi says he’s not worried about his upcoming trial – and he’s got plenty of reason to be confident.

THE ITALIAN PREMIER Silvio Berlusconi has insisted he is “not at all worried” about the prospect of his trial, which is scheduled to take place on 6 April.

Prosecutors in Milan have compiled a 700 page dossier against him, which includes the allegation that the billionaire tycoon paid for sex with a 17 year old nightclub dancer nicknamed Ruby the Heart Stealer.

He is accused of paying for sex with an underage girl and abuse of office.

The Daily Telegraph reports that a press conference in Rome, he was asked repeatedly about the trial, and eventually snapped:

For the love of the country, I will not talk about this. Enough! I can only say one thing: I’m not worried at all.

And Berlusconi might argue that he has good reason not to be worried: Bloomberg Business Week reports that by his own reckoning, since becoming Italy’s Prime Minister, he has endured 105 judicial probes and trials and 2,500 court hearings – and not a single one has survived the country’s tortuous appeals process.
