NASA captures stunning footage of rare solar flare

The remarkable event was filmed by NASA’s Solar Dynamic Observatory.

NASA HAS CAPTURED this stunning footage of the sun emitting a solar flare. A  flare is the solar system’s largest explosive event.

The image was captured yesterday by NASA’s Solar Dynamic Observatory. A flare is a large burst of radiation.

The radiation from the flare is not strong enough to permeate the sun’s atmosphere and cause harm to humans. However it could impact on GPS and communications signals.

A team of researchers including members from Trinity College Dublin recorded a rare X-class solar flare in May this year. The feat was considered akin to winning the ‘solar lottery’.
