What else could I get for... this €249,000 former home of a Spanish Civil War veteran

We take a look at what €249,000 could get you around the country.

THIS HOUSE IN Glasnevin does not look out of the ordinary.

The single-storey two bedroom property looks pretty similar to all the other houses on Prospect Avenue.

However, No. 39 has an interesting history, having formerly been the home of Spanish Civil War veteran and part founder of the Communist Party of Ireland, Michael O’Riordan.

Born in 1917, O’Riordan had a colourful upbringing, first joining Fianna Éireann and then later the IRA where he developed his interest in left-wing politics.

In 1937, he travelled to Spain with several hundred other Irish people to fight for the Spanish Republic against Franco’s army.

He was injured by shrapnel a year later and was subsequently repatriated to Ireland. He remained politically active throughout the rest of his life and was frequently a controversial figure.

He passed away in 2006.

The house itself is in close proximity to Phibsborough and Drumcondra. The home comes with two large bedrooms, an open-plan kitchen and dining area and a family bathroom.

The interior of the house is in good condition throughout.
