Is this what Irish blues sound like?

Little John Nee plays a rock’n'roll showman with the blues in Sparkplug – and we like it.

THERE IS AN eclectic line-up of shows at the ABSOLUT Fringe festival in Dublin this week – none more so than an Irish man whose got the blues…

Little John Nee plays Sparkplug Callaghan, a rock’n'roll showman who travels through the back roads of Donegal (not literally) to bring together the songs and stories of a despairing people. As the programme says: “He’s got the blues bad: everyday there’s another funeral, Joe Duffy’s on the radio and the banks are putting people on the side of the road… but across the meadow he sees a vision… his boat has come in.”

Sparkplug is on at the Lir Theatre at 8.45pm every night from tonight through to Saturday (book here).

We’ll be bringing you one of our reader-generated reviews on Sparkplug tomorrow afternoon but in the meantime, have a listen to one of his original songs. What do you think?
