St Patrick's Church in Wicklow damaged by fire

A woman in her 40s is assisting Gardaí with their investigation.

ST PATRICK’S CHURCH in Wicklow town centre has been damaged by a fire.

The incident happened at around 2pm this afternoon.

The fire was started inside the church, near the crib.

The scene was attended by three units of Wicklow Fire Services and the fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes.

A senior fire officer in Wicklow told TheJournal.ie that the “crib was damaged” the most, along with “some smoke damage” and “water damage” to the interior of the church.

However, the building is expected to be open again in time for Christmas services.

A woman aged in her 40s is assisting Gardaí with their investigation.

There was no injuries in the incident.
