Police officer stabbed in the head by man who took baby hostage

The 20-year-old man has been arrested.

A POLICE OFFICER in south London is recovering after being stabbed in a confrontation with a “violent man” yesterday.

Police were called to a residential address on Cooks Road yesterday evening to reports of a man being violent. They had been informed that the man had armed himself with a knife and had picked up a baby.

Officers attended the address and tried to speak to the man. He eventually put the baby down but attacked the officers who were there.

One of them, a man in his 30s, suffered stab injuries to the shoulder and head.

His colleagues managed to detain the 20-year-old man who attacked him. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.

The injured officer was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.
