A man in his 20s is currently detained by gardaí in Cork in connection with the stabbing.

LAST UPDATE | 15 Apr

GARDAÍ HAVE COMMENCED a murder investigation into the fatal stabbing in Youghal yesterday.

The investigation was launched following the preliminary results of a post-mortem exam.

Gardaí arrested a man in his 20s in relation to the incident in Youghal, which happened shortly before 10pm at a flat on North Main Street in the east Cork town. He is currently detained at a garda station in Cork.

It is understood that a row broke out between two people at the premises, and a man was stabbed in the stomach.

The injured man was transferred to Cork University Hospital for treatment, where he was later pronounced dead.

A number of scenes are being preserved for forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

The deceased man has since been named locally as Dan O’Sullivan.

O’Sullivan was convicted of the fatal assault of homeless 34-year-old Frenchman Vincent Morgain in 2015. He was aged 22 at the time. He was sentenced to eight years with the final three suspended.
