Woman escapes house before attacker holds four-hour standoff with gardaí

The young woman was taken to Mallow Hospital and is being treated for serious but non life threatening injuries.

A MAN HAS been arrested after a stand off with gardaí in Cork overnight.

A woman in her 20s escaped from a house in Mallow town after being assaulted and contacted the gardaí.

Officers arrived at a house in Sandfield Terrace at around 2.30am and the man barracked himself into the house.

Local radio station, RedFM, reports that the stand off lasted four hours.

The man, aged in his twenties, was persuaded to give himself up at around 6.30am today.

He was arrested and taken to Mallow Garda Station for questioning.

The young woman was taken to Mallow Hospital and is being treated for serious but non life threatening injuries.
