Keep her lit: 6 statement table lamps that will create an instant focus for any room

Pay attention to these fun lighting designs.

WHEN WE THINK of statement pieces, it’s often large, cumbersome, and immovable items that spring to mind.

An ornate fireplace, a large pendant lamp or an interesting armchair can speak volumes and grab attention – but usually this means forking out for something you’ll have to live with for a long time.

But if you don’t fancy a big commitment, a statement table lamp might save you the time and energy. Choose the right one and it can create a focal point for less money, too.

This week, we searched Instagram for six statement table lamps that are a far cry from the traditional base and shade. From hares and monkeys to sculptural forms, read on and find one to suit your space.

1. Shine on: Play with different surfaces and bounce some light around with the help of clean, brass finishes that really pop against matte wood and paint. Here @hubschinterior gets the balance just right by bringing out the yellow tones in the bench.

2. Monkey see, monkey do: Lamp shades can be considered old-hat in modern homes, so for a touch of fun, look at designs that take on sculptural forms and concepts. @appartn17’s Seletti table lamp adds instant character and looks right at home strategically placed amongst the forest of greenery on this shelving unit.

3. All about that base: Playing with height and hanging your artwork a little lower will bring focus to a table lamp you want to show off. @creativemary_lighting does just that with our attention drawn to the interesting legs of this black and gold lamp.

4. Round and round: We love how @greenandmustardathome creates a real focal point by playing with circles. Helped by the artwork that mimics the lamp’s form, attention is brought to this IC T1 table lamp by FLOS. The white surfaces are in perfect proportion, evened out by the artwork that leans against the wall, and the marble tabletop, too.

5. Hare raising: Bedside lights don’t have to be boring. If the space allows, mix modernity with tradition and look to lamps that embrace run-of-the-mill lampshades with bases that tell more of a story.

6. Feathered and functional: Add some softness to a hard space with an eye-catching shade. Although @mriorgroup embraces the pendant in this image, the beauty of the Eos is its versatility. Available in all sorts of styles, one placed on each bedside table would create a similar, dramatic effect.
