Student dies after 'buttocks injection' at US hotel

A young British woman has died following a cosmetic procedure in a US hotel – which detectives believe was arranged over the internet.

US POLICE ARE investigating the death of a British woman who they suspect received a silicone injection into her buttocks in a Philadelphia hotel room.

Claudia Adusei, 20, who had travelled from London, died in a Pennsylvania hospital on Tuesday. Investigators have said they believe the procedure took place in a hotel near Philadelphia International Airport; they think the meeting was arranged over the internet.

Detectives confirmed that they are seeking two people in connection with the death, the Telegraph reports.

AP reports that Adusei had travelled from London with three companions. It is believed that Adusei had a buttocks injection on Monday and a companion had a hip augmentation.

Autopsy results have not yet been released.

Paul Harris, plastic surgery consultant at the Royal Marsden hospital in London, told the BBC: “Bottom augmentation is becoming more popular and originated in South America, in places like Brazil,” and added that liquid silicone injections were not practiced in the UK because of the risks associated with them.

Other health dangers associated with liquid silicone injections include pulmonary embolisms – blood clot to the lungs – Harris said.
