Suspicious object discovered in Strabane

For the second time in two days, Army Technical Officers have been called to investigate an object in the Co Tyrone town.

A SECURITY ALERT is underway again today in Strabane following the discovery of a suspicious object in the Butcher Street area this morning.

The PSNI says that Butcher Street, Barrack Street, Bowling Green and Market Street are closed.

A number of properties in the area have been evacuated and an Army Technical Officer has been called to the scene to examine the object.

Yesterday, a similar incident sparked evacuations in the Ballycolman area. A controlled explosion was carried out at the scene, but police later described the object as an “elaborate hoax”.
