Suspicious package discovered at RTÉ was a hoax

A suspicious package was discovered at the offices of the national broadcaster at lunchtime yesterday.

A SUSPICIOUS PACKAGE was discovered at the offices of RTÉ yesterday but was later determined to be a hoax.

Gardaí have confirmed to TheJournal.ie this morning that a suspicious package was discovered at RTÉ in Donnybrook yesterday afternoon around lunchtime.

The package was brought to Donnybrook Garda station where a Defence Forces EOD team was called to examine it.

The package was declared a hoax and found to be of no danger to the public, the Defence Forces confirmed.

The Irish Daily Star, which reports the story this morning, says the package contained a liquid and had a Moroccan postmark and Arabic writing but this could not be confirmed.

RTÉ did not return a request for comment at the time of publication.
