Rubberbandits happened upon it and posted it to their Facebook wall, before it was subsequently posted on the Reddit Ireland page where it’s been viewed tens of thousands of times.

The programme was produced for Ireland’s match against Germany at Dalymount Park in October 1936 and went up for auction in March 2014 at Whyte’s of Dublin. It went on to fetch €900 after an initial estimate of between €400 and €600.

Ireland beat Germany 5-2 in the game and according to the British Pathé archives the German team did the Nazi salute as they listened to their national anthem.

Other items of sports memorabilia in that particular auction included a programme for a match between Ireland and Switzerland on St Patrick’s Day in March 1936. It fetched €280.
