Cork startup takes home top award at SXSW competition

Trustev, a company that specialises in online fraud prevention, came first in the best Enterprise and Big Data category in the SXSW accelerator competition in Austin, Texas.

A CORK COMPANY has taken the grand prize in one of the biggest tech startup events in the world.

Trustev, a company that specialises in fraud prevention, won the Enterprise and Big Data category in the South by Southwest (SXSW) accelerator competition in Austin, Texas.

The competition, which was held during the weekend, saw 48 startups pitch their ideas in categories such as social, health, and entertainment. The festival has developed a reputation for unearthing new tech companies before they made it big, with the likes of Twitter, Uber and Foursquare appearing there during their early days.

Speaking about the win, Trustev CEO Pat Phelan said the team was “over the moon”  as the company prepares to open its New York office in a few weeks time.

The company prevents online fraud by using your social profiles to verify your identity. It analyses the metadata behind your profiles to determine you are who you say you are.

The company recently moved into physical stores by launching a retail version of its service, allowing customers to log in using their Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn data to verify their identity before purchase.

It was also named Europe’s top technology startup by the EU commission and one of the hottest global startups by Forbes.
