1. #GERRY RYAN: The inquest into the death of RTÉ presenter Gerry Ryan has recorded a verdict of death by misadventure.

Earlier today, a coroner told the inquest that traces of cocaine found in his system were likely to have triggered the cardiac arrhythmia which led to his death.

2. # WIKILEAKS: It seems Russia thinks Julian Assange should get Nobel Peace Prize - if a source from Russian President Medvedev’s office is to be believed.

The source said that public and non-governmental agencies should think of ways to help Assange, and used the example of a Nobel nomination. A spokesperson for Medvedev’s later said the comment was a joke. Nevertheless, Russian support for Assange seems strong: Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has recently questioned how democratic Assange’s detention is.

3. # RACISM: Ireland’s human rights record has been criticised by the Irish Human Rights Commission.

In the report published today – Human Rights Day – IHRC said that racism was a growing problem in Ireland and criticised plans to reduce services for asylum seekers in the Budget. IHRC said that more protection needed to be given to asylum seekers, migrant workers, Travellers and human trafficking victims.

4.  # PFIZER: US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer hired private investigators to find evidence of corruption concerning a Nigerian attorney general – in an attempt to force him to drop a case over a drug trial involving children with meningitis, according to a diplomatic cable released by Wikileaks.

5. # BREACH: The Gaelic Athletics Association says that the personal details of over 500,000 of its members have been compromised.

A database containing the details, which included references to the medical condition of some members, has been ‘breached’. A man was arrested earlier as part of the investigation.
