The 5 at 5 5 minutes, 5 stories, 5 o’clock.

Every afternoon, TheJournal.ie brings you 5 things you really need to know by 5pm.

1. #ANGLO: Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy has said that there is “a major investigation going on” into alleged financial regularities at Anglo-Irish Bank. Their job, he said, was to “ensure a file goes to the DPP”. Justice Minister Dermot Ahern also told the News at One on RTE that the investigation is “the biggest and most complex” in the history of the State.

2. #COURTS: The High Court has halted a bid by businessmen Denis O’Brien and Dermot Desmond to prevent former Tanaiste Michael McDowell from acting as barrister for the Moriarty Tribunal. Justice John Hedigan said that Irish laws relating to objective bias did not apply to legal counsel. O’Brien and Desmond plan to appeal.

3. #MALDIVES: An English-speaking couple who had their vows renewed in what they believed to be a romantic ceremony on a Maldivian island, were in fact mocked throughout by the celebrant. He referred to the unwitting couple as “swine” and “infidels” during the ceremony, a video of which was posted on YouTube. Two men have been arrested by police in the Maldives.

4. #R.I.P. The youngest daughter of Foreign Minister Micheal Martin has died in a London hospital. Leana Martin was just 7 years old. Her family have said they are “heartbroken” at her loss.

5. #WORK CAN WAIT: Stuck with last-minute Halloween preparations? One man has made a video instruction manual on how to carve a pumpkin… with a gun. Don’t try this at home.
