1. # RING RING! Siptu says it will not apologise for publishing the mobile phone numbers of TDs – including members of the cabinet – in a union newsletter.

While Siptu head Jack O’Connor acknowledged to the Irish Times that it was “not practical” for the mobile phone numbers to be in the public domain he refused to apologise. He said: “The day for apologising to this Government is over.

2. # TWITTER: Twitter is currently deciding whether to base its European operations in Dublin or London in light of an upcoming expansion.

Google and Facebook have already based their headquarters for Europe, the Middle East and Asia in Dublin.

3. # UK: A controversial American evangelical pastor, who vowed to burn copies of the Qu’ran to mark the anniversary of the September 11 attacks earlier this year, could be banned from entering Britain.

Pastor Terry Jones has been invited to address a rally organised by the English Defence League in February – a far-right organisation that protests the so-called “Islamification” of England.

Britain’s interior minister Teresa May says she is “actively looking” into the case.

4. # FRANCE: An armed man who took a group of children hostage at a nursery in eastern France this morning has released all of his hostages unharmed.

Reports suggest that the man, believed to be 17 years old, was armed with two swords. The mayor of the town, Jean-Louis Fousseret, told France Info radio that the motive for the incident was a yet unclear.

The man is now in police custody.
