The 5 at 5 5 minutes, 5 stories, 5 o’clock.

EACH WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you five stories you really should check out by 5pm.

1. #DJ CAREY: Hurling legend DJ Carey and his partner Sarah Newman, formerly of TV’s Dragons’ Den, have both been hit by an order in the Commercial Court today to each repay around €9.5m to AIB.

2. #SHOOTING: A teenager has been shot in the head in Dublin city this afternoon. Remarkably, the young man is still clinging to life in hospital.

3. #AGEING: The results of a comprehensive study of older people in Ireland have been published today. The study, which will interview and assess over-50s every two years until 2018, has thrown up a number of interesting facts – while most of those interviewed say they are happy, 10 per cent record suffering depression and three-quarters are overweight.

4. #BIN LADEN: Yesterday we reported how a Dublin church very nearly dedicated a Mass to the memory of Osama bin Laden – today it emerges that a Catholic priest in Australia has called on his parishioners to forgive bin Laden and to pray for him.

5. #EUROPE DAY: While our political party leaders are making speeches about how wonderful it is to be part of the European Union, the EC headquarters in Brussels has marked the anniversary of the foundation of the EU in a more downbeat fashion – by completely shutting up shop.
