1. #AIB: One of the most authoritative banking associations in the world, the International Swaps and Derivatives Association, has ruled that AIB is officially in default as a result of its moves to enforce burden-sharing on some of its junior bondholders.

2. #ENROLMENT: The Minister for Education has presented a discussion document today, which propose changes in schools’ enrollment systems that he says could eliminate unfair practices – including the removal of lengthy waiting lists and preferential treatment for children who are related to staff members or former students.

3.#SUICIDE: New research has revealed that the mental health of men in Ireland is being “extremely adversely” affected by rising unemployment. Meanwhile the Department of Health has been criticised after a project conducting research into suicide clusters in Cork had its funding cut. The Suicide Support and Information System had identified links between a number of suicides in Cork.

4. #WOMB TRANSPLANT: A Swedish woman has agreed to donate her womb to her daughter, who was born without a uterus, in the world’s first mother-to-daughter womb transplant.

5. #HEROES: Two Danish pensioners were saved by the RNLI off the coast of West Cork yesterday after their yacht got into difficulties. The Baltimore Lifeboat Station, which saved the men, tweeted and Facebooked about their ordeal.
