1. # THE DISAPPEARED: Police in Northern Ireland searching for the body of a man who vanished in 1973, have discovered the remains of a human body in Co Antrim.

Peter Wilson, a 21-year-old with learning difficulties, disappeared after leaving his home in Beechmount near the Falls Road area of West Belfast nearly 40 years ago.

The full recovery and official identification of the remains will likely take several weeks, however Wilson’s family have been informed.

2. # JIM McDAID: Donegal North East TD Jim McDaid has resigned his seat in the Dáil, saying he believes a general election is in the best interest of both Fianna Fáil and the government.

McDaid has said that a general election should take place before the budget is announced – and before Ireland returns to the bond markets – saying: “Can you imagine us going to the bond market at the same time as having a general election?”

3. # GREECE: A string of mail bombs have been delivered to five foreign embassies and to the parliament in Greece – and a suspect package has also been discovered in the office of Germany’s chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin.

Merkel was not in Germany when the package was discovered in the mailroom of her office.

Four people were arrested in Athens on Monday after mail bomb exploded in Athens, and two further explosions occurred outside the Swiss and Russian embassies in Athens on Tuesday. However nobody has been seriously injured in the attacks, which Greek police have blamed on far-left domestic extremists.

4. #DOH! Now we understand how former Irish Nationwide Chief Executive Michael Fingleton overlooked a €27m pension fund in his disclosures to the Commercial Court.

When you see the extent of his asset portfolio, you might too…

5. # POLICE COMPLAINT: A police officer in the UK is being investigated after allegedly inserting song titles into his testimony at an inquest as a joke.

The officer, known as “AZ8″, was giving evidence into the shooting dead of a barrister by police in 2008 after an armed standoff. The inquest found that Mark Saunders had been killed lawfully – he had been drunkenly firing shots through the windows of his flat.

However, suspicions that the officer had indulged in the popular prank known as “Rickrolling” soon emerged. Rickrolling sees pranksters planting the name of singer Rick Astley’s 1987 hit Never Gonna Give You Up into documents.

The exact song titles that were allegedly used in the testimony have not been revealed.
