Every afternoon, TheJournal.ie brings you 5 things you need to know by 5 o’clock.

1. # BAILOUT: Today the Dáil approved Ireland’s €67.5bn loan package from the European Union and International Monetary Fund, by 81 votes to 75.

Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan said that the country defaulting on its loans was not an option, as it would damage Ireland’s reputation.  Meanwhile, Fine Gael’s finance spokesman Michael Noonan described the deal as a “downright obscenity”.

2. # MCKILLEN: Property developer Paddy McKillen has begun his Supreme Court appeal against Nama taking over €2.1bn of his loans.

Last month, the Commercial Court ruled that McKillen could not resist the transfer of his loans to the agency. McKillen had argued that the establishment of Nama was unconstitutional.

3. # GREED IS GOOD: Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has been named as Time magazine’s Person of the Year.

Zuckerberg beat contenders such as Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, Afghan president Hamid Karzai, the Tea Party and the trapped Chilean miners. He was chosen because he is “at the centre” of an evolution of human interaction, according to Time’s judges.

4. # ZOO BABIES: Dublin Zoo has unveiled its newest arrival – a baby Rhino.

The calf was born last Friday and will be named by public competition. The person who submits the winning entry will receive an annual family pass for the zoo.

5. # HORSE OUTSIDE: One of the Rubberbandits rang in to defend the group’s song Horse Outside to angry callers on RTÉ’s Liveline today.

An angry Limerick resident rang Joe Duffy to complain about the representation of the city in the song – which is at the centre of a campaign to reach this year’s Christmas number one.

Limerick TD Willie O’Dea, who has before been satirised in a Rubberbandits song, also rang in to defend the video.

Rubberbandits member Blindboy fielded the angry caller’s complaints:

“It’s a joke,” the angry caller said.

“It is a joke, yeah. You’re hitting the nail on the head there, kid,” Blindboy replied.
