EACH WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you five stories you really should check out by 5pm.

1. #UH-OH The Central Bank has lowered its expectations for Ireland’s economic growth in 2011. It predicts that the economy will expand by 0.8 per cent this year. That’s down from the 0.9 per cent it forecast three months ago.

2. #CLOYNE Catholic publication The Irish Catholic has applauded Taoiseach Enda Kenny’s speech about the Vatican, saying that he ‘captured the anger of a generation’. Meanwhile it’s reported that the Papal Nuncio Archbishop Guiseppe Leanza will personally present the Vatican’s response to the Cloyne Report and the government’s criticism. Leanza is being transferred to the Czech Republic, but will return to carry out the task.

3. #NAMA NAMA is offering to write off 20 per cent of the mortgage of people who buy property from them now, in a bid to encourage people to buy its residential property without the fear of falling into negative equity.

4. #PIEGATE The comedian who attacked Rupert Murdoch with a pie made of shaving foam has been convicted. Jonnie Marbles pleaded guilty to two charges arising from his actions during Murdoch’s attendance at the meeting of the Culture, Sport and Media committee in Westminster in relation to phone hacking.

5. #TWINUTESILENCE Right about now it’s hoped that people around the world are taking part in a ‘Twinute Silence’ as a mark of respect for those who lost their lives in the Norway attacks. Will you be taking part? Or did you take part?
