Taliban attack Nato base in Afghanistan

Foreign and Afghan troops have repelled a Taliban attack in Khost province.

AN EARLY MORNING attack by Taliban insurgents on two Nato bases in eastern Afghanistan was repelled by foreign and domestic troops on Saturday.

Taliban forces attacked the US military’s Forward Operating Base Chapman and Forward Operating Base Salerno in Khost province, sending in fighters armed with rockets and machine guns as well as and suicide bombers.

Khost police chief Abdul Hakim Ishaaqzai told local reporters that the bodies of 14 insurgents were found. Five surviving Taliban fighters have been detained, one of them wounded. Two vehicles packed with ammunition and explosives have been seized.

Two civilians wee also killed in the fighting. According to The Dallas Morning News, one victim was a 12-year-old Afghan boy.
