Two men have been charged.

GARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED and charged two men after two stores were robbed in Tallaght by a man wielding a hatchet.

The first robbery took place at a post office in Glenview at about 4.15pm yesterday afternoon. A man armed with a hatchet entered the premises and threatened staff and customers before leaving with a small amount of cash.

He left the scene in a car.

Less than half an hour later, about a kilometre away, another premises was also robbed by a man allegedly wielding a hatchet. Again, the man threatened staff and left the scene in a car with a large amount of cash.

Gardaí say they located the car involved in the robbery and after an on-foot chase they arrested two men.

A quantity of cash and a hatchet were also recovered. Both robbery scenes are being examined by investigators.

The men, aged 32 and 34 years, are being detained at Tallaght Garda Station.
