The scene outside the house where James Humphries was stabbed last night. Sasko Lazarov/Photcall Ireland

Man killed in Tallaght stabbing 'wouldn't hurt a fly'

The family of father-of-one James Humphries have been paying tribute, following his death in a stab attack in Tallaght last evening.

THE MAN KILLED in yesterday evening’s stab attack at a house in Tallaght has been named as James Humphries. He was in his early thirties and from the area.

Humphries received fatal stab wounds in a house on Kitalown Way in the south Dublin suburb at around 6.40pm yesterday.

He was taken to Tallaght Hospital where he died shortly after 7pm.

Another man, also in his 30s, was arrested at the scene and remains in garda custody this afternoon, a spokesperson for the force confirmed to TheJournal.ie.

The scene at the house remains sealed off, and gardaí are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination.

James’s aunt, Teresa Knowles told RTÉ’s News at One today that he was a gentle person who “wouldn’t hurt a fly”.

Clearly stuggling to hold back tears , she said, “he was brilliant — he wouldn’t harm anybody”.

She said James was the father of a 12-year-old, but was no longer living with the mother of his child.

Family members and neighbours left floral tributes at the scene this morning, as the forensic investigation continued in the front garden of the house.

The man arrested is being held at Tallaght Garda Station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, and can be questioned for up to 24 hours.
