Poll: Is Ireland's tax exemption for artists worth the money?

The government is said to be considering the future of the scheme.

REPORTS THIS MORNING suggest that the government is considering the future of the artist tax exemption.

Under the tax exemption scheme, the first €50,000 per annum of profits or gains earned by writers, composers, visual artists and sculptors from the sale of their work is exempt from income tax in Ireland in certain circumstances.

The scheme is designed to help young artist especially but has been criticised for some for being open to too many people.

Today’s Sunday Independent reports that 2,840 people availed of the scheme in 2015, with a cost to the taxpayer of €10.8 million. But do you agree with it?
