Teen (18) found dead in crashed car in drain could have been there for hours

A post-mortem is to take place.

A MAN AGED 18 was found dead in a car discovered in a drain in Kildare yesterday.

It is believed the incident occurred between the hours of 12 midnight and 1.50pm that day.

Gardaí are investigating the single vehicle fatal road traffic collision, which occurred at Kishawanny, Carbury, County Kildare.

The car was discovered in a drain off the R402, Carbury – Edenderry Road at approximately 1.50pm.

One man, who was the sole occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to Naas General Hospital and a post-mortem is to be arranged.

The road was closed for a period of time to facilitate garda forensic collision investigators but has since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information, particularly those who travelled the R402 between Carbury and Edenderry during the hours of 12 midnight and 2pm on 21 February 2016, to contact Leixlip Garda Station on 01 6667800, the Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any garda station.

In another incident, a 70-year-old man died after being struck by a car on Culmore Road in Derry last night.

The collision was reported to police shortly before 6.55pm. The road remains closed this morning and a diversion is in place. Police investigating the circumstances of the collision are appealing for witnesses.

    As I have said before.
It is not ultimately a food crisis but an overpopulation issue in a region of our planet which cannott sustain such a large amount of people.
Birthcontrol and education are crucial in resolving this.

U hit the nail on the head. This is not like the Irish famine . Ireland has always being able to grow enough food. It’s having too many children in desert areas

This is not just a contraception issue, its also a cultural issue.
I work in maternity services and we have many African women having 12 or 13 children. These women and their husbands do not work and are a massive drain on this country.
You cannot expect people who are starving to go look for condoms when what they actually want is a bigger family as its ‘part of their culture’ to have massive families. It will take much more and years of education.
In work 2 weeks ago, I dealt with 2 African ladies, one pregnant with her 13th child and another pregnant with her 11th. 2 African women having the same number of children as 11-12 Irish women is not going to help Ireland.

I am only seeing this thread now, sorry…!

I interviewed Sorcha Nic Mhathúna Oxfam’s Communications Consultant on the crisis on Raidió na Life last month. I will be interviewing her again for an update. The interview below is in Irish but I plan to cover it as Béarla also next week.
