Teen killed in early-morning Monaghan crash

A young woman was also injured in the collision at Magherakill. More than 100 people have now died in collisions on Irish roads this year.

A YOUNG MAN has lost his life following a crash in Monaghan this morning.

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene on a bend in the Castleblaney to Dundalk Road at Magherakill where he lost control of the car at about 5.15am.

A female passenger, also in her late teens, was injured in the collision and was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. Her condition is described as not life-threatening.

The road is currently closed for forensic examinations and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to contact the Castleblaney station on 042 974 0668 or the confidential line on 1800 666 111.

More than 100 people have now died in collisions on Irish roads so far this year.
