Tesco Ireland says it will refund people who paid €4.20 for a bottle of water

That’s an expensive bottle of water.

LAST WEEK, A shopper in Tesco Donnybrook spotted 500ml of bottled water at the low, low price of €4.20.

It quickly went viral on Twitter and Reddit, as people declared the good times to be back:

The shopper confirmed to DailyEdge.ie that the price was indeed correct, and that when the bottle was scanned it came up as €4.20.

Tesco Ireland has since told DailyEdge.ie that the product is no longer on sale and that the price was a mistake:

Our intention is never to mislead our customers and we apologise for a manual error which meant that this particular product was put on sale at an incorrect price in a small number of stores instead of the correct €1.25 retail price.

Not only that, but anyone unlucky enough to have purchased it can now get a full refund:

This product is no longer on sale. Any customer who bought this product at the higher price should bring their receipt back to their local store to receive a refund.

So now.

The viral €4.20 bottle of water turned out not to be a harbinger of doom, and everything is going to be OK.
