1.#FIRE: Two Irish students have been killed after a fire engulfed an Irish college in Belgium. Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology confirmed to TheJournal.ie that the two victims were 22-year-old Dace Zarina from Longford and 19-year-old Sara Gibadlo from Oranmore, Galway.

2.#STORMS: Ireland is going to be hit by bad weather again this weekend. Really bad weather. Winds of up to 130km per hour are being forecast and an Orange Alert warning has been upgraded to cover the whole country. The worst of the weather is due to hit at around 3am.

3.#PORTLAOISE: It has been revealed that a letter was written that expressed concerns over staffing levels at Portlaoise Hospital before the deaths of four children. On the back of the RTÉ Prime Time investigation into the hospital, RTÉ reported that 32 midwives at the hospital wrote to the then Minister for Finance, Brian Cowen and Minister for Health, Mary Harney back in 2006. They expressed a “real fear” that children could die because of inadequate staffing.

4.#KNOX: Amanda Knox has told a US chat-show that she has no faith in the Italian justice system and that she will “never willingly” go back to the country. Knox was last night convicted of the 2007 murder of British student Meredith Kercher. However, she did not attend the trial and now faces being the centre of an extradition row between Italy and the US.

5.#ONE MIS-DIRECTION: A man in Galway has been charged with selling counterfeit concert tickets. The fakes were for the upcoming Beyonce and One Direction concerts. Gardaí say the man was arrested while driving his car near Tuam. The haul is believed to be ‘significant’.
