1. #ANGLO Former Anglo boss Seán Fitzpatrick will stand trial at Dublin’s Circuit Criminal Court on 7 October 2014. He is charged with making false or misleading statements to corporate auditors.

2. #AUSTRALIA An attack which left two Irish men in hospital in Perth, Australia has been put down to high “intoxication levels of the people involved” by local police. The brothers, aged 28 and 31, became involved in an altercation with three other men at about 2.45am on Thursday 27 June.

3. #CRASH The ‘black box’ from the plane involved in the San Francisco crash has been examined by investigators from the National Transport Safety Board in the US. They found that a request to abort the landing was captured on the cockpit voice recorder 1.5 seconds before the plane crashed.

4. #KILKEE The body of a man believed to be in his 50s was found washed up on Kilkee Beach yesterday evening. He was airlifted to hospital but pronounced dead a short time later. It is believed he was at the beach alone.

5. #COURTS There was a significant rise in the number of rape cases heard in Irish courts last year, and a decrease in the number of murder cases. Newly published data showed that almost 60 per cent of District Court summary matters were road-traffic related.
