The 5 at 5 5 stories, 5 minutes, 5 o’clock…

EVERY WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you the five stories you need to know as you head out the door.

1. #ROBBERIES: Two men escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash following an armed raid on Bank of Ireland on College Green in Dublin city centre at about 11.40am this morning – while, at around 1.45pm, another two men escaped with a sum of money during a robbery of a cash-in-transit van on the campus of DCU.

Meanwhile, Two men aged in their 20s have also been arrested following an armed robbery at Clonalvy Post Office, Co Meath, at around 9.40am yesterday.

2. #SAVITA: The HSE has formally asked the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) to conduct its own inquiry into the death of Savita Halappanavar at Galway University Hospital earlier this month. HIQA is to announce its decision on the matter later this afternoon.

3. #ARREST: A man aged in his early 20s has been arrested as part of a Garda investigation into the murder of 20-year-old Stephen Hanaphy in Louth two years ago. A number of cannabis plants, €200,000 worth of illegal cigarettes, and illegal alcohol were also confiscated during the operation.

4. #PHONECALLS: The phone number being used to make automated calls to Irish households about the country’s laws on abortion over the past 48 hours has been identified by the Data Protection Commissioner and shut down. The office has received more than 30 complaints about the calls.

5. #WINNING: It’s official: Michael Noonan is better Minister for Finance than he was one year ago. According to the Financial Times’ yearly list of the EU’s finance ministers, Noonan ranked a respectable fifth place when compared to 18 other EU finance ministers.

Just in case you’re scratching your head over that one, the FT cites Noonan’s “scrupulous adherence” to the troika’s bailout plan as the reason for his move up the ladder.
