The 5 at 5 5 minutes, 5 stories, 5 o’clock…

EACH WEEKDAY EVENING,TheJournal.ie brings you five things you should know before you head out the door.

1. #POPE FRANCIS: Newly-elected Pope Francis is to take on the role of Bishop of Kilfenora parish in Co ClareTheJournal.ie can reveal. A source within the parish has confirmed that the Pope is now nominally the Bishop of the parish, under a Papal Dictate that goes back as far as 1883. Kilfenora is the last remaining parish to come under the remit of the Holy See.

2. #ROBBERY: Two men are being held this afternoon after being arrested over an armed robbery at Clare Hall shopping centre in Dublin. The robbery happened at around 10.30am when one man threatened a cash-in-transit employee with a gun. The incident caused three flights to be diverted earlier as air traffic control at Dublin Airport had to give priority to a garda helicopter.

3. #HORSEMEAT: The Department of Agriculture has suspended all operations at a county Offaly abattoir after an inspection found 25 “irregularities” relating to horse passports and microchips. Minister Simon Coveney said he was concerned by the results of the investigation at Ossory Meats, adding that the findings were “totally unacceptable” and “deeply disturbing”.

4. #HACKING: Police in England have arrested four journalists from Mirror Group Newspapers on suspicion of conspiring to intercept telephone voicemails during 2003 and 2004. Three men and one woman, all in their 40s and described as journalists or former journalists, were detained at separate addresses at about 6am today in south London.

5. #HIGGS: Scientists at CERN have today said they are fairly certain that they have confirmed the existence of the Higgs Boson particle. Results from new tests show the particle discovered last year “is looking more and more like a Higgs boson,” researchers said at a press conference in Geneva today. The elusive boson – nicknamed the ‘God particle’ –  is believed to be responsible for giving mass to elementary particles and has long been seen as the key to tying up many loose ends in the standard model of physics.

And a special mention goes to our commenter and visual-riddle-solver zebedee, for managing to represent the number five using just five ladybirds (as per conversation below)… genius!
