EVERY WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you five things you really should know before heading out the door…

1. #FLOODS: The bodies of two people have been uncovered in the aftermath of last night’s torrential rains.

The body of a woman was discovered in the basement of a house on Parnell Road in Crumlin, Dublin, by the Dublin Fire Brigade, who pumped the dwelling this morning. The woman has not yet been identified.

The body of an unidentified man was also discovered this morning by people searching for an off-duty garda who was swept into the River Liffey in Co Wicklow last night.

The destruction wreaked by torrential rains across Dublin became clear today – with heavy flooding even leading to a graveyard wall collapsing in Howth, leaving coffins exposed

2.#RACE FOR THE ÁRAS: Seán Gallagher has accused his fellow-presidential candidate Martin McGuinness of attempting “political assassination”. Gallagher said that he has been targeted by McGuinness, and Sinn Féin, because of his calls for presidential candidates and members of the public to come forward with any information they may have about the killing of Det Jerry McCabe.

A spokesperson for Sinn Féin has dismissed the claims as “nonsense”.

3. #RADIO: Today FM chief Willie O’Reilly is to leave the radio station for RTÉ, it has been revealed today. O’Reilly has been CEO of Today FM since 1999 but previously he worked in RTÉ, where he was executive producer of the Gerry Ryan Show for ten years.

4. #ARREARS: Electricity supply companies have begun rolling out new pre-payment electricity meters for customers in arrears – just weeks after a survey by the Irish League of Credit Unions showed that one in four people are unable to cope with increased energy costs.

5. #TURKEY: Some good news has emerged from earthquake-struck north eastern Turkey – with a two week old baby pulled alive from the rubble of a collapsed apartment block.

The tiny baby girl, Azra Karaduman, had been trapped in the debris for 72 hours following the a 7.2-magnitude earthquake last Sunday – which has killed at least 366 people.
